Momentum building for Scott Brown victory

January 5, 2010

Democrats will no doubt deny it, but most objective observers have noted a palpable shift in the special election dynamic this week. Even hard-core, partisan pundits have softened their rhetoric, as comments have shifted from, “Of COURSE Martha’s gonna win!,”  and “It’s virtually certain Coakley will win…” to “Do you think Brown could actually pull this off?” and “You know, if Brown pulls this off…”

Adding to the Democrats’ worst nightmare is Curt Schilling’s endorsement of Brown:

…and a new Rasmussen poll that puts Brown within striking distance of Coakley:

U.S. Senate candidate Scott Brown visits Quincy’s 1000 Southern Artery

December 28, 2009

Sen. Scott Brown greets residents of Quincy's 1000 Southern Artery senior complex

Residents at Quincy’s 1000 Southern Artery senior complex enjoyed a special holiday treat last week, when American Idol finalist Ayla Brown performed a brief concert at a holiday reception for her father, state senator and U.S. Senate candidate Scott Brown.

Currently a senior at Boston College, Ayla Brown took time out from her college break December 23 to join her father on the campaign trail, offering seniors a bit of holiday cheer while her father discussed the more serious issues facing Massachusetts and America, including taxes and health care.

“If you care about Medicare and the half a trillion-dollar-cut Congress plans to make to Medicare to fund this proposed health care bill, you need to vote on January 19,” Brown told attendees. “The choice in this election is very clear: If you want someone who will go down to Washington and vote in lockstep with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to cut Medicare, raise taxes and increase government spending, then vote for my opponent. If you want someone who will be an independent vote and a voice for the citizens of Massachusetts, vote for me.”

Former Quincy Mayor Frank McCauley and American Idol finalist Ayla Brown

Former Mayor Francis X. McCauley, who introduced Brown at the event, noted that the special election to fill the Senate seat formerly held by the late Sen. Edward Kennedy holds significance not only for Massachusetts residents, but for the entire country. Currently, McCauley said, Senate Democrats have the 60 votes they need to prevent a filibuster and limit debate on important issues.

“If Scott Brown is elected January 19, he would be the 41st vote that could stop damaging legislation like this proposed health care bill from being passed against the wishes of the American people,” McCauley said.

Currently serving his third term in the state Senate, Brown previously served as a state representative and a Wrentham selectman. A 30-year member of the Massachusetts National Guard, he holds the rank of Lt. Colonel in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps.  In 2004, Brown received the United Chamber of Commerce’s “Public Servant of the Year” Award for his leadership in reforming the state’s sex offender laws and protecting the rights of victims.

Jeff Beatty to debate John Kerry Monday at 8 p.m. on NECN

October 19, 2008

U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Beatty and John Kerry square off in the first of two debates Monday Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. on New England Cable News. After months of stalling, it seems, Sen. Kerry has managed to take time away from his cross-country campaigning for Obama to actually come home to Massachusetts — you remember where that is, right, Sen. Kerry? — to answer to his constituents.

Of course, as rotten luck would have it, the only televised Beatty-Kerry matchup will air opposite the Patriots game on Monday Night Football. Boy, poor Senator Kerry just can’t seem to catch a break, can he? First, Kerry’s 19-minute debate against primary challenger Ed O’Reilly airs on a Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. and now his debate against Beatty goes up against a major primetime sporting event. The cynics among us might even suspect Kerry planned it that way to ensure that as few angry voters tune in as possible.

Kerry has reason to be afraid. No doubt Beatty — a Purple Heart recipient and former FBI and CIA agent –will come out swinging, holding Kerry accountable for his egregious record of taking $19 million in campaign contributions from the same Wall Street giants he voted to have his constituents bail out.

So, let’s review: Kerry — the richest member of Congress – spends 24 years selling his soul to Wall Street bigwigs and Washington lobbyists. When the you-know-what hits the fan, Kerry sells out his constituents again by voting to have struggling taxpayers bail out his millionaire Wall Street cronies. And while other congressmen at least make an effort to solve this financial crisis, Kerry goes traipsing around the country campaigning for a cabinet seat — uh, I mean campaigning for Obama. Yeah, that’s it, Obama.

Be afraid, Sen. Kerry. Be very afraid.

NECN’s debate will be followed by a one-hour radio debate scheduled to air Monday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. on WTKK 96.9 FM. Think Sen. “Cash and Kerry” had anything to do with that time slot?
